DEAR AUNTIE ABENA,
I have been an avid reader of the stories on your page and I never thought a day would come I would be writing to you. I have always heard stories if what I am going through and never thought I would experience such.
My fiance whom I have dated for four years now received an opportunity to go on secondment to America (we both work for the same multinational company that has offices globally). The secondment is for 2 years and due to end in September this year, after which he is supposed to come back to Ghana.
Before he left, we agreed we would marry during this time, of which arrangements are in the process. The issue is he came down to Ghana in December 2020 and didn’t inform me. No problem. He has been around for 3 weeks with no attempts made to see me.
He called me over the weekend to meet him so we talk. Just imagine this man telling me that he wants to acquire his papers and as such is arranging a contract marriage, so I should be prepared to wait for him before he can marry me. Prior to this he had had a change in behavior so I was already suspecting him.
Everyone knows I have helped him, and his family has called to beg and tell me to be patient and pray. But I have made up my mind to move on with my life. Fortunately for me, I’ve made my own plans regarding my career, and acquiring property, because I told myself I would never be dependent on anyone.
My advice to anyone out there is shine your eyes. Don’t depend on anyone because people can be wicked. Even if you give them everything they won’t see.
